Don’t Look Now

Don’t look now but I think I heard your name
Don’t look now but I think I found the pain
Well, I know you’d want it just like that
Oh, it must be great to have that knack
Don’t look now but I think I heard your name

Well, I patched the cuts you left upon my face
I wiped the walls you covered in dinner plates
Well, I know you’d want it just like that
Cause you’re one mean, hell raising cat
Don’t look now but I think I heard your name

I built these walls to protect me
I spent my savings on therapy
I ran the race I thought I’d won
But in the end you always come
Don’t look now but I think I heard your name

Well, I know you’d want it just like that
Oh, it must be great to have that knack
Don’t look now but I think I heard your name

Don’t look now but I think I hear your keys
Jangling in the lock I changed last week
Well, you know I want it just like that
I guess you’ll learn that you can’t come back
Don’t look now but I think I heard you name
Don’t look now but I think I heard you name
Don’t look now but I think I heard you name

Writer's comments:

When I was young I remember when one of my many fathers came home drunk and took my mother's chili and through it all over the kitchen walls. Later a baseball bat came out and my mother defended herself. I wrote this for her.
